Art of Life Records is pleased to present guitarist Johnnie Valentino and bassist Chris Colangelo's new album, "Resemblance". The album features nine original compositions by Johnnie Valentino and one song, "All I Know", written by Jimmy Webb.
Recorded by Lou Forestieri in August 2018. Produced, Mixed & Mastered by Johnnie Valentino. Executive Producer & CD Artwork by Paul G. Kohler.
Guitarist Johnnie Valentino spent his youth in a Philadelphia neighborhood that was filled with a history of great Jazz guitarists that starts with Eddie Lang and continues through to a modern day virtuoso Pat Martino.
Valentino studied privately with Joe Sgro, Dennis Sandole and Pat Martino. In the late 70’s & early 80’s Valentino studied music at Rutgers University while playing nightclubs and doing recording dates
for Philly World Records at Alpha studios. In 1984 Valentino relocated to Los Angeles where he has been musically active in many facets of the arts such as composing, scoring, sound designing and performing for films, TV, recordings,
games and toys. He has recorded with contemporary improvisers such as Pat Martino, Alex Acuna, Alan Pasqua, Kermit Driscoll, Billy Drewes, Mick Rossi, Vinny Golia, Bob Sheppard, Wadada Leo Smith,
Michael Pedicin, Erik Friedlander, Mike Sarin, Bennie Maupin, Gerry Hemingway, Oscar Brashear, Luis Conte, Alphonso Johnson, Russ Johnson, Andy Lester and Andrew Sterman.
Bassist Chris Colangelo is one of the genuine masters on his instrument. The first thing you notice about Chris’s playing — his tone, deeply resonant with astonishing articulation across the instrument’s sonic register. Once you adjust to such reverberant force, you recognize that this is a musician with serious chops … that hard to define, never forgotten lyric quality that separates yeoman time-keepers from bassists with seductive narrative power. Born in Camden, New Jersey, Chris attended Rowan University, majoring in Jazz performance. Then a resident of the Philadelphia area, Chris was part of the local Jazz scene with session work throughout the Delaware Valley,
including gigs in Atlantic City. After moving to Los Angeles in late ’91, Chris began performing and traveling with heavyweights such as the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, Count Basie Orchestra, “The Tonight Show Band”, Yusef Lateef, Bob Brookmeyer, Jimmy Cleveland, Alex Acuna, Roy McCurdy, Doc Severinsen, Ernie Watts, Kei Akagi, Les McCann, Richie Cole, Sal Marquez, Joe La Barbera, Bob Mintzer, Arturo Sandoval, Tom Scott and Peter Erskine among many others. He is currently touring with famed vocalists Jack Jones and Mary Wilson.
