Art of Life Records is pleased to welcome guitarist and composer Fareed Haque to its family of recording artists. Recorded in January 2022, "Return to the Joyous Lake" finds guitarist Fareed Haque, keyboardist Kevin Kozol, bassist Alex Austin and drummer Greg Fundis along with some special guests paying tribute to the late great guitarist Pat Martino with the newly recorded version of Pat Martino's classic 1976 recording, "Joyous Lake". Recorded, Mixed and Mastered at RaxTrax Studios in Chicago, Illinois by Jason Schmidt. Graphic Design by Brandtner Design.

The CD version of the album contains newly recorded versions of all six tracks that originally appeared on Martino's "Joyous Lake" album all arranged by Fareed Haque. The Digital Download version of the album features two bonus tracks: An alternate version of the title track, "Joyous Lake" in addition to an alternate version of the song "Line Games" which originally appeared on the Alternative Guitar Summit's "Honoring Pat Martino, Volume 1" recording.

In our handful of emails and conversations, Pat and I had discussed the possibility of recording of my own versions of the “Joyous Lake” music, as much to study it and understand it as anything else.

I find this music to be truly unique in the Jazz repertoire and even among Pat’s own compositions.

The tunes contain improvisations that are often built around a line or lines that have to be targeted by the soloist… A unique challenge that’s a lot of fun too.

And the more we played the music, the more it’s become something we look forward to - they are great vehicles for improvisation and spontaneous creativity.

Pat gave his blessing to the project and I was looking forward to playing these sessions for him in order to continue our discussions of the music.

Unfortunately we lost Pat before he could hear this. So I humbly submit this as my tribute not only to his memory but his artistry and his genius.
